Obituary: Thomas Joseph Marshall, 85, of Stratford
Thomas, a dedicated State of Connecticut employee, was an avid reader, history buff, devoted family man, music fan and true Irishman.
STRATFORD, CT - (From Dennis & D'Arcy Funeral Home) Thomas Joseph Marshall, age 85 of Stratford passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at his home with his loving family by his side.
He was the devoted husband of 60 years to Barbara Laufer Marshall. Born in Bridgeport on January 3, 1936 he was a son of the late Robert and Rosemary White Marshall.
Thomas served his country with US Army during peacetime. Following his father’s footsteps, Tom worked for the State of Connecticut, Department of Transportation for 37 years and retired as surveying party chief.
Thomas was a devout catholic and was a standing parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Fairfield.
He was an avid reader, history buff and enjoyed swimming. He loved his many trips over the years with his wife and family and in later years just taking a ride to the beach.
Tom also enjoyed trips to the casino and loved listening to music, especially Elvis, Johnny Cash, Kenny Rogers or Dolly Parton.
To know Tom, was to love him, a true Irishman, he had a heart of gold, easy going, always smiling and a true family man.
In addition to his beloved wife Barbara, he is survived by his son, Robert John Marshall and his wife Stacy of Stratford and his daughter, Tara Lynn Marshall of Stratford. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters in-law; Les Keeton, John Laufer, Frank Barbary, Eleanor Christiano and June (Leonard) Riccio and his cousins.
He was the favorite “Uncle Tommy” to his many nieces, nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, who he missed dearly; Robert (Roz) Marshall, George (Arline) Marshall and Mary Keeton. Brothers and sisters in-law; Donald Laufer, Marjorie Barbary, Rachel Laufer and Ronald Christiano and his nephew, Frankie Barbary.
He will be deeply missed by his entire family and friends. The family would like to thank Chaifetz Family Hospice for their exceptional care, especially, Kelly, Rebecca, Marcia and Ashley.
Due to the recent fire at Our Lady of Assumption Church, A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at 11:00 am at Our lady of Peace Roman Catholic Church, with Fr. Peter Cipriani officiating.
Interment will follow in St. Joseph of Stratford National Catholic Church Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may greet the family on Monday, December 6, 2021 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Dennis & D’Arcy – Abriola & Kelemen Funeral Home, 2611 Main Street, Stratford.
