Obituary: Valentina May, 74, formerly of Stratford

STRATFORD, CT - (From Adzima Funeral Home) Valentina May, 74, of Carlsbad California, formerly of Stratford Connecticut, the widow of Stephen May, passed away on April 29, 2022.

Valentina was born in Munich Germany, on November 3, 1947, to the late Oleksa and Herta (Roth) Iwanow. She emigrated to Sao Paulo Brazil, before emigrating a final time to Bridgeport Connecticut, in the United States in 1960.

She was a graduate of Bassick High School, class of 1966. She attended the University of Bridgeport and graduated from Southern Connecticut State College.

An elegant woman who raised two wonderful daughters, Valentina created a fabulous executive career using her linguistic abilities with Sikorsky Aircraft ultimately retiring from the aviation company and moving to Carlsbad California.

She is survived by her devoted daughters, Tamara Bugarchich of Stratford, and Christina Botello of California (husband Patrick); her California stepchildren, Jessica May, Allan May (wife Carissa); cherished grandchildren, William James Bileca of Stratford, and Sophia May of California; Valentina's sister, Elena Bonetti of Stratford (husband Kenneth); niece, Dara Cates (husband Dale), nephew, Robert Bonetti (wife Jamie) and great-niece and great-nephew, Natalia and Tanner.

Valentina was a devoted mother, an adoring grandmother, a wonderful dancer, and hostess to many memorable parties for all of us.

She was happy when making her beautiful art, gardening and when spending time with her family and friends. We were truly blessed to have had her with us.

Valentina’s family invites friends and family to visit on Wednesday, June 15th from 4-6 pm in the Adzima Funeral Home, 50 Paradise Green Place, Stratford Connecticut.

Interment will be private.
