Robert Sandmann, long time resident of Milford, passed away October 4, 2025
U.S. Naval Aviator Veteran who served during the Vietnam War, remained enlisted for 33 faithful years. Beloved husband, father & grandfather

Robert Sandmann, long time resident of Milford, passed away surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness on October 4, 2025 and earned his second set of wings. He earned his first set of wings as a Naval Aviator on Feb 11, 1959 in Pensacola, Florida.
Bob was born on September 10, 1938 in Ridgewood NJ, the only child of William Henry and Hazel Agnes Sandmann. Bob was a Vietnam War era veteran who flew during the Cuban missile crisis and was involved in the Bay of Pigs operation. He performed over 600 aircraft carrier landings in both fighter jets and helicopters. Bob also went on to fly for US Navy office as a helicopter test pilot as Sikorsky Aircraft. He was in charge of the presidential aircraft program which is now known as marine one. Bob also flew many dignitaries as LT CDA during the Kennedy era. After 33 years he retired at the rank of Captain and Commander of the Navy reserve unit on the USS Intrepid.
In addition to his impressive military achievements, he was most proud of his family. He leaves behind the love of his life Carol of 66 years. Together they raised five children, Richard Sandmann (Sharon), Barbara Lynch (William), Patricia Tohak (Victor), Suzanne Jagoe (Michael), Kimberly Shriber (Paul).

He also leaves behind ten adoring grandchildren who all thought he was their world. Ashley Hall (Michael), Robert Jagoe (Cassandra), Marisa Robito (Kevin), Jeffrey Jagoe (Nicole), Richard Sandmann Price (Abby), Victoria Tohak, Bryan Jagoe, Ryan Lynch, Kyle Lynch, Kevin Tohak, and step-grandson Paul Shriber Jr. In addition, he is also survived by six great grandchildren: Madison, Brayden, Boden, Vivian, Julian and Lucy.
Bob enjoyed boating, fishing and traveling but his greatest joy was spending time with his family. He was most happy when his family was all together whether it be in the family pool or just get togethers at his home. Bob was known for tackling any home project whether large or small for his family while always patiently teaching, which was one of his passions.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff of Neuro ICU Yale New Haven hospital for their exceptional care, with a special thanks to Dr. Kurtis Chien-Young for his knowledge and compassion at the most difficult time of our lives.

Family and friends are invited to gather on Friday, October 10, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad Street, Milford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Church, 70 Gulf St., Milford, CT (MEET DIRECTLY AT CHURCH). Military Honors to follow on front lawn. There will be no cemetery procession.
