Crews extinguished fires at three homes in Stratford on Sunday afternoon, according to officials.
STRATFORD, CT — Firefighters extinguished fires at three homes in Stratford on Sunday afternoon, according to officials.
Crews responded around 1:50 p.m. to McKinley Avenue on the report of an oven fire. The Stratford Emergency Communication Center directed the residents to evacuate the home, according to a news release from Stratford Fire Chief Jermaine B. Atkinson.
“Upon arrival of the first-arriving crews, the fire was extinguished with limited damage to the original area of origin,” the news release states.

Then, at around 2:05 p.m., while crews were clearing up from the first call, officials said another structure fire was reported on Ryan Avenue.
The fire was reported to be on the second floor with smoke showing. All on-duty units responded and crews immediately entered the structure to search for occupants and confine the fire to its original location, according to the news release.

Officials said the occupants had evacuated the home and one of the occupants sustained a minor injury that was not related to the fire.
“Due to the units being on the road the response time was shorter which contributed to less damage to the structure,” the news release states.
Officials said that while units were “performing salvage and overhaul to preserve the personal property at the second incident,” the Stratford Communication Center began receiving multiple calls for a another fire in the 400 block of North Abram Street.
“This report summoned the residential structure fire assignment again consisting of all on-duty firefighters under the direction of Assistant Chief Steven Alesevich,” according to the news release. “Due to the extreme weather conditions, additional resources were needed on scene which resulted in additional fire crews responding from Bridgeport and Milford Fire directly to the scene. Station coverage was provided by the Bridgeport, Nichols, Shelton and Milford Fire Departments while all on-duty units extinguished the fire. Stratford EMS was on scene for incident support as well.”
The cause of all three fires is being investigated by the Stratford Fire Marshal’s office, according to officials.
“The Red Cross was called to assist the residents of each residence who were displaced,” officials wrote. “The Stratford Fire department would like to remind our residents to have working smoke detectors, regularly practice an escape plan for residential homes, and call 911 immediately upon observation of smoke or fire.”
