St. Mark Petitions to Restore Full Time School Nurse

The St. Mark community is rallying in support of their students. They have created an online petition in favor of having their Full-Time School Nurse restored at St. Mark School.

Due to budgetary reductions undergone by Stratford Public Schools, the Town of Stratford has notified St. Mark School and St. James School that they will no longer be provided with a full-time nurse. The town has suggested that the St. Mark School Nurse, Wendy Frate, split her time between both schools.

Both schools deserve a full-time nurse, especially with their growing enrollment and the number of students with food allergies, asthma and diabetes.

This year's enrollment of 234 is an all-time high for St. Mark School, as they experienced an 18% increase from the previous year with many classes at wait-list status.

"Reducing our nurse might make the Town of Stratford's budget look better on paper and allow for money to be allocated elsewhere; but it is NOT benefitting anyone in Stratford, especially our children," shared St. Mark Principal, Melissa Warner. "Parents deserve the comfort in knowing that when their children are out of their care during school hours that there is a medically trained professional in the building that can treat, aid and administer the proper medications, procedures and life saving techniques that could be needed in the case of an emergency."
