St. Mark School’s Pink State of Mind
Dressed in pink, the school community rallied together in the fight against cancer and raised $3,650 for SWIM Center for Cancer Care.
St. Mark School in Stratford recently hosted a school-wide Breast Cancer Awareness Cut-A-Thon.
For the sixth consecutive year, stylists from CKC Salon in Fairfield volunteered to set up a mock hair salon in the school gym.
Faculty, classmates, and the school mascot cheered in support as four boys shaved their heads and sixty-four girls purchased pink synthetic hair extensions. This year, Stratford Mayor Laura Hoydick arrived to show her support to the worthy cause.

Dressed in pink, the school community rallied together in the fight against cancer. Students raised $3,650 for the Elizabeth Pfriem SWIM Center for Cancer Care at St. Vincent's Hospital, the largest amount ever raised in one year. To date, the school has raised nearly $29,000.
First grader Kennedy Solivan was recognized for collecting the largest donation of $525.

“I wish breast cancer wasn’t a thing because my grandma got it,” said Kennedy. The six year old created a social media video campaign that captured the hearts of many supporters.
This year marks the school’s 14th anniversary of the Cut-A-Thon. In 2009, St. Mark School earned the National Blue Ribbon of Academic Excellence Award. Every year since then, the school turns their blue ribbon pink in October, in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness month.
