Stratford Recognized As A 'Tree City' By Arbor Day Foundation

STRATFORD, CT — (From Stratford Mayor’s Office): The Town of Stratford has once again been recognized as a Tree City USA community for 2024 by the Arbor Day Foundation, marking its continued commitment to effective urban forest management.

In addition to this prestigious designation, Stratford also earned the Tree City USA Growth Award, a distinction granted to communities demonstrating improved levels of tree care and community engagement.

This is the fourth time Stratford has been named a Tree City USA community, and the second time to receive the Growth Award.

The Tree City USA program, sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service and National Association of State Foresters, honors cities and towns that meet four core standards: maintaining a tree board or department, adopting a tree care ordinance, budgeting at least $2 per capita for forestry efforts, and celebrating Arbor Day annually.

Stratford's receipt of the Growth Award recognizes innovative projects that expand community forestry efforts and public awareness. In 2024, Stratford advanced its tree management strategy through expanded tree planting initiatives, enhanced public outreach, and implementing an inventory program to monitor and efficiently support the vast array of trees throughout the Town.

“Trees are a vital part of Stratford’s landscape, providing beauty, improving air quality, and supporting biodiversity,” Mayor Laura R. Hoydick said. “This recognition highlights our community’s ongoing dedication to maintaining and growing our urban forest.”
