Stratford Resident Earns LEC Rookie Of The Week Honors
The Stratford High School graduate has been named the Little East Conference's Rookie Field Athlete of the Week, officials announced.
STRATFORD, CT — Stratford’s Angelina Taccogna, a freshman on the Eastern Connecticut State University women’s track and field team, was named the Little East Conference’s Rookie Field Athlete of the Week, officials announced.
Taccogna, a Stratford High School graduate, is the first member of the program to gain a weekly LEC honor this year.
At the Coast Guard Academy Invitational where Eastern was fourth with 77 points in an eight-team field, Taccogna contributed eight points by taking third among 10 in the high jump (5-0 ¼ / 1.53m) as the top freshman finisher and fifth among 18 in the long jump (14-11 ½ / 4.85m) and was also ninth in the triple jump (31-2 / 9.50m).

Taccogna equaled her season-best in the high jump, reaching 5-0 ¼ on her third of four jumps. She had advanced to 5-0 ¼ by clearing 1.45 meters and 1.50 meters on her third of three tries at both heights. Her mark in the triple jump came on the third of her six jumps and her mark in the long jump was the best of four tries.
Eastern competes at the New York University Division III Challenge Saturday at The Armory in New York City prior to the Little East Conference Championship at the Providence Career & Technical Academy on Feb. 22.
