STRATFORD, CT — A veteran Stratford police officer battling kidney disease is searching for a living kidney donor, according to the Connecticut Post.

The Post reports Jennifer Murolo, 40, is in stage 5 of polycystic kidney disease and trying to find a living kidney donor before dialysis becomes necessary in about four months.

Murolo’s sister, Mary-Ann Madera, told the Post that Murolo didn’t want any publicity about her condition, but there comes a time when “you have no choice."

According to a post on DONOR, Murolo is passionate about animal cruelty and neglect, and has spent much of her life working with cat projects across the state and “working with animal rescue organizations, supporting all community members, including LGBT, and working closely with The Special Olympics.”

“After spending nearly two decades in law enforcement committed to advocating for the elderly, children, and those less fortunate, Jen now finds herself dependent on the kindness of others,” the post reads. “So after living with PKD so long, her kidneys no longer work which leads her to needing a donor. Unfortunately her siblings and some other family members have graciously tested for her, but were not suitable matches.”

A living kidney donation would help Murolo “return to living a healthier life,” according to the post.

“After finding out 4 months ago that she is now in critical end stage kidney failure, she is humbly asking for assistance in finding a living donor,” the post reads. “Jen is not the kind of person who likes to inconvenience others, so her family and friends are writing on her behalf! Jen is on the kidney transplant list and part of the local kidney swap program through Yale Transplant Center but they estimate it will take years, so the most viable path is the National Kidney Swap Program—or the best option, a transplant with a Living Donor match.”
