77-Year-Old Driver Dies After Head-On Crash, Suffield Police Say

A person was killed when a car crossed the center line and collided head-on with a van, according to Suffield police.

SUFFIELD, CT — A head-on crash involving a car and a Sprinter-style van on Route 159 is now deadly, according to an update from the Suffield Police Department.

Police said the crash occurred around 1:45 p.m. Thursday near 367 East Street South when a car crossed the double yellow line and struck a Sprinter-style van head-on.

The driver of the car, Carol M. Breton, 77, of Windsor Locks, was rushed by ambulance to Baystate Hospital with "very serious" injuries and later died, police said. Her next of kin has been notified.

The driver and passenger in the van suffered minor injuries and were not transported from the scene, authorities say.

The North Central Municipal Accident Reconstruction Squad (NCMARS) continues to investigate the deadly collision.

Police said the stretch of Route 159 that had been closed between Boston Neck Road and Bridge Street has since reopened following the on-scene investigation.
