The s’more dates back to at least the 1920s, when the Campfire Girls came up with the idea. The legend has it that the Girl Scouts soon caught on and the treat quickly became a campfire staple. The name s’more may come from a shortening of the phrase “some more,” as the treat was called in Girl Scout literature until the early 1970s.
