Brush Collection Instructions from the First Selectman

Find out how to organize your debris for pickup in Suffield here.

Storm debris collection on town roads started today in Suffield. Local crews and contractors will be working seven days per week, 10 to 12 hours per day, collecting only storm-generated debris. (A separate debris collection effort on state roads is being coordinated by the Connecticut Department of Transportation.)

We have divided the town of Suffield into multiple debris collection zones. All zones are being worked in the same time with the goal of coordinated, safe and efficient recovery. Your cooperation and patience is appreciated.

We will be collecting all the yard debris from one subdivision, street or block in a zone before moving to the next.

Three collection passes will be made.

From Nov. 17 through the Thanksgiving weekend a first pass will be made in your neighborhood.

A second pass will be made in early December. This pass will be more thorough and we ask that you try to get all of your debris out to the street by Dec. 1.

A third pass may take place in mid-December. All eligible material will be collected for final inspection by town representatives.

As you are preparing to place your debris for pick up, please adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Do not place any debris on top of utilities (cable, phone, electrical or storm drain boxes).
  • Please do not block you mailbox with the debris.
  • Please try not to block the roadways with debris piles, emergency vehicles may need to enter and exit your area.
  • Please drive carefully and slowly in areas with large debris piles.
  • Please do not dump any debris into storm drains or ditches – this will cause flooding.
  • Please help by sweeping up loose debris from the road in front of your house and bagging the debris for collection.

Thank you for your patience, understanding, and assistance as we undertake this massive clean-up effort! (And thanks to our crews and staff working long hours to make it all happen!)
