Float a Blimp, Tee-Off, Enjoy Poetry and Music

Design and build a blimp! Looking for something cool to do? Build a helium-filled blimp that floats at shoulder height through a maze at the New England Air Museum. Program is free with a museum admission this week.

Music and poetry at the Hill-Stead Museum. Famed American poet Billy Collins and the jazz sounds of Indra Rios-Moore will be featured Wednesday night as part of the Sunken Garden Poetry Festival at the Hill-Stead Museum in Farmington.

Big Band Sounds to highlight a summer day trip. The Duke Ellington Orchestra performs at Harkness State Park in Waterford's Summer Music Series on Thursday, Aug. 8. Lawn Seats in advance are $25, $35 at the door. Rain or shine with a backup rain site planned.

Suffield Rotary Golf Tournament. The 22nd annual Glenn T. Packard Memorial Golf Tournament tees off Friday. Breakfast at 7:30 a.m., and shotgun start at 8:30. Openings are available for individuals and groups of five or less.

Meeting of the Week: Retirement Commission, Thursday, Aug. 8, Town Hall Meeting Room at 7 p.m.
