SUFFIELD, CT — Despite being located in one of the few commercial districts in Suffield for nearly three decades, one could easily not even notice the small shop in the southeast corner of the Mountain Road Market Place. It may be small in stature, but ranks large for refreshment, particularly in the brutal heat of summer.

Wilma's Scoop Du Jour was established in 1995, and is currently owned solely by Mona Mastalisz. She originally had a partner named Williams, so a combination of their surnames produced the moniker Wilma's.

The shop offers many flavors of hard and soft ice cream, as well as frozen yogurt, shakes, floats and other varieties of ice-cold treats.

Upon the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, Mastalisz removed the few inside seats at the shop. Customers now order at the back service window, next to Windsor Federal Savings, and can enjoy their selections on a patio.

In a 2022 article, connecticuticecreamquest.com ranked Wilma's at No. 62 among the best ice cream shops in the state. Not bad for a mostlyl bedroom community with very little commerce west of the Connecticut River.

Scoop Du Jour is open daily from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. from March through October.
