June 1: 21 Days Until Summer Starts

It feels like summer already in Suffield, but the season officially starts June 21.

1. There is a 50 percent chance of rain today, with thunderstorms possible. Hail, high winds and lightning may occur. Except for storm clouds, it will be mostly sunny today with a high temperature of 87 °F. The wind will come from the south at speeds between 5 mph and 15 mph. It will be clear tonight with an overnight low of 55 °F. The wind will come from the west at speeds between 9 mph and 14 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

2. The Board of Selectmen have called a special meeting tonight at 7 p.m. at Town Hall. Items on the agenda include grant approval, new information on plans to repair the library roof and updates from First Selectman Tom Frenaye.

3. Jets Youth Football and Cheerleading is offering free cheer and football clinics today and Thursday at the Suffield Middle School track from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Kids who have already signed up for football or cheer, as well as those considering joining a team for the coming season, are encouraged to attend. Kids from age 6 through age 14 are eligible to participate.

4. The Suffield Middle School band will hold two performances of its spring concert Thursday. Find out more here. Suffield seniors are invited to a performance of the concert today.
