Letter to the Editor: McAnaney Responds to DTC Mailing
Republican candidate for first selectman and former probate judge Ed McAnaney responds to a mailing from the Suffield Democratic Town Committee challenging that he mismanaged the Suffield probate court's finances.

The following letter to the editor from Republican candidate for first selectman and former probate judge Ed McAnaney was sent to Suffield Patch in response to a mailing from the Suffield Democratic Town Committee. That mailing .
Tom Frenaye and the Suffield Democrats are engaged in the kind of deceitful, desperate politics unworthy of our town. You may have received a post card from them that impugns my integrity and ability to manage the probate court’s finances when I served as your probate judge from 2000 to Jan. 2011.
Tom Frenaye himself requested a copy of the audit report from the probate court administrator for the last year of my tenure, 2010, in the hope that he could extract information that would put me in a bad light. When he could find none, he resorted to outright falsehoods as he and the Democratic Town Committee selectively extracted portions of the audit report that implied that I couldn’t manage the court’s funds properly.

He also stated that “Suffield is paying almost $2,500.00 for his [McAnaney’s] bills.” This is a lie. Suffield owes nothing and is paying nothing as a result of my tenure as probate judge.
What Tom neglected to say about the audit was that it resulted in a credit of $598. He also neglected to say that audits were annually performed on all of the probate courts and that an audit report with debits and credits was commonplace; perhaps he just didn’t understand what an audit report means. In addition, all salary I received was set by state law.

In fact, there was no mismanagement of the court’s finances and I served you honorably as your probate judge for over 10 years. Tom and his Democratic Town Committee members are unscrupulous and should have shown the professionalism and integrity that Suffield deserves.
