New Water Main Lines To Be Installed On Mountain Road In Suffield

SUFFIELD, CT — Connecticut Water will begin a $2.5 million project to install new water main in Suffield on portions of Mountain Road the week of Sept. 3. The project will increase available water flow to improve water quantity, quality and fire protection for customers.

About 6,700 feet of water main will be installed at a cost of about $2.5 million. The new main replaces existing pipe that is more than 80 years old. Six fire hydrants will also be replaced as part of the project.

"Investing in drinking water infrastructure improves water system reliability and enhances water quality,"Vice President of Service Delivery Rose Gavrilovic said. "When customers turn on the tap they expect high-quality water, without interruption. This investment in new water main will serve customers for decades to come."

Work hours will be 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with an expected completion in spring 2025. Streets impacted by the project include Mountain Road from Spaulding School to Ratley Road and Taintor Lane. Customers in the construction area have been notified of the project and will receive advance notice of any scheduled water service interruption because of the water main installation project.

The project is funded through the Water Infrastructure and Conservation Adjustment (WICA) on customer bills. WICA funds enable the company to accelerate the replacement of aging water system infrastructure and sustain valuable water resources.
