Picture Suffield - Then And Now
An old photograph and story from Suffield's past, and how that site appears today.

SUFFIELD, CT — The Suffield Library has had many of the town's high school yearbooks digitized and available for viewing on the website archive.org. Inside the pages are wonderful memories of school days past, but also a look at some local businesses of the time.
In this periodic column, we revisit those local institutions which supported the students via yearbook advertisements. Today's offering was published 46 years ago, from the 1978 yearbook, Sagitta - an ad from the Suffield Inn.
The inn was an institution at 94 Mountain Road for nearly seven decades. Originally a beer tavern in the 1930s, the building was transformed into the Suffield Restaurant in 1945 by Bruno and Jeanette Kulas. Jean and Paul Kulas, who later became a town selectman, took over the business in 1960, and renamed it the Suffield Inn.

The Kulas put the business up for sale in 1993, and it was leased for the next three years by Laurinda and Jose Lopes. They made a slight alteration to the name, adding International Churrasqueira, which means charcoal grill in Portuguese. The couple purchased the building outright in 1996.
In 2013, new management changed the name to Three Figs, which has remained since.
