SBM Offers Northern CT Scholarships

Students in Suffield and much of northern Connecticut can receive scholarships to Connecticut colleges and universities.

Students in Suffield and much of the state of Connecticut are eligible for college scholarships at in-state colleges and universities in the coming academic year courtesy the SBM Charitable Foundation.

SBM annually provides scholarships of up to $5,000 to undergraduate students in northern Connecticut and awarded $200,000 in June 2011, when the foundation presented its latest round of scholarships.

Eligibilty requirements include: residency in Hartford, Tolland or Windham counties, academic placement in the top 40 percent of the applicant’s class, a college GPA of 2.5 or better and an “exceptional commitment” to school and community activities. Applicants must be US citizens and plan to attend an institution of higher learning in Connecticut. The scholarships are renewable for students who maintain the eligibility requirements.

The application deadline is March 31.
