Suffield Girls Win Track Title, Boys Take 2nd
The Suffield Wildcats girls indoor track team won the girls NCCC Indoor Championship on Jan. 18. The Suffield boys took second place in the boys competition.
The indoor track teams had a strong finish to the season, bringing home the girls’ indoor championship and a boys’ second-place title on Jan. 18 at New Haven's Floyd Little Athletic Center.
The girls won with an aggregate score of 102 points, while the boys finished with 77 points, second to Ellington’s 96 total. Individuals and relay teams from the girls’ and boys’ sides finished in the top three of 16 events, there were 30 total events.

Suffield girls: The team of Kellen McGann, Paxton McNierney, Kristryn Shank and Lauren Izabel came in second in the 4-x-800 meter relay with a time of 10 minutes and 35.55 seconds. Peri Stevens won the 55-meter hurdles while setting a school record with a score of 8.99. Shelby McCormick took second in the 1,000-meter run (3:22.87) and Hannah Gardocki finished third (3:24.10). Lauren Izabel finished first in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:43.86. The team of Gabija Pileika, Shelby McCormick, Eliza Doane and Lauren Izabel won the 1,600-meter sprint medley with a time of 4:48.33. Nur Hamideh won the 300-meter dash with a time of 45.72 seconds. Kristryn Shank, Paxton McNierney, Shelby McCormick and Peri Stevens won the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:27.91. Gabija Pileika finished second in the long jump, with a distance of 15 feet, 9 and 1/2 inches. Gaby Attanasio won the pole vault with a distance of 8 feet, 6 inches.
Suffield boys: The team of Brendan Kirschbaum, D.J. Labarre, Connor Gates and Dan Moroney won the 4-x-800 meter relay with a time of 8:41:19. David Biederman earned second place in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:43.98. San Moroney placed second in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:43.04 and D.J. Labarre placed third in that race with a time of 4:47.21. Dan Moroney won the 3200-meter run with a time of 10:02.46. Bumjoon Park finished second in the pole vault with a distance of 10 feet.
