Suffield PD Adds First K-9 Team Since 2016 After Officer Roman, K-9 Rico Graduate Academy
K-9 Rico joins the Suffield Police Department following a 12-week training program, authorities say.

SUFFIELD, CT — Suffield Police says it has added a new K-9 team following the graduation of Officer Randy Roman and his police dog, Rico, from the Capital Region K-9 Training Academy.
Rico is the department’s first K-9 since 2016. Police said the K-9 program was reinstated through a grant from the Stanton Foundation, secured by Police Chief Dennis Canon.
Officer Roman and K-9 Rico completed a 12-week training academy and are certified in patrol work and narcotics detection. The department said the team will soon begin active duty.

Police said the K-9 team will strengthen the department’s ability to locate evidence, track people, detect narcotics, and engage with the community during patrols and events.
Residents are encouraged to say hello when they see Officer Roman and K-9 Rico out on patrol.
