Suffield's Sweeney Leads Norton Junior Luge Championship Field
Suffield native Emily Sweeney holds first place in the women's division halfway through the Norton junior age class national luge championship race series, a two-day event.

Suffield native Emily Sweeney won the first of two Norton Junior National Luge Team Seeding Races Friday on the 2002 Olympic track in Park City, Utah. Sweeney leads the junior women midway through the event.
The competition includes three events over two days. There are two separate seeding races and the finale is set for Saturday. The combined time of the four heats will decide the junior age class national champion (to age 20).

Sweeney was triumphant by three quarters of a second on the women’s layout that measured 1,140 meters. A two-time Junior World Cup winner and three-time Challenge Cup gold medalist this season, Sweeney clocked two heats totaling 1:31.570.
The results of the Norton seeding competitions will be used in determining the composition of USA Luge’s fall 2012 team lineup.

The final junior event of the season begins Saturday at 11 a.m.
