🌱Boat Accident Ends In Tragedy + St. James Episcopal Church Tag Sale

Here are the top three stories today in The Haddams-Killingworth:

1. The man killed in a boating accident Sunday on the Connecticut River that left multiple others injured has been identified. The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) said Wayne Hamler, 60, of Waterford, was pronounced dead at the scene. The boating accident also left a 45-year-old woman in critical condition. A 6-year-old boy is in serious but stable condition, and two other adults are in stable condition, according to DEEP officials. The boat's other occupants have been treated and released, officials said. The preliminary investigation of the accident found that the 21-foot Yamaha jet boat was traveling north on the river when it "suddenly veered toward the shoreline," officials wrote in a news release. "The vessel ultimately collided with rocks on the bank of the river. As a result of the collision, numerous occupants were ejected from the vessel." The accident is currently being investigated. Sunday's crash marks eight boating deaths so far this year. (Patch)
2. Mark your calendars! The St. James Episcopal Church in Higganum will sponsor a tag sale on Saturday, July 30, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the church’s parish hall at the corner of Route 81 and Little City Road. The sale will feature furniture, collectibles and other items. People from all over looking for an opportunity to sell their wares are welcome.
