  1. According to a press release, the Killingworth Board of Selectmen has appointed a Charter Revision Commission. The Town Charter is a legal document and the law of Killingworth, which is to be reviewed once every ten years. The Committee's directive is to determine whether the Town Charter requires updates, revisions and amendments. The committee is seeking public input, comments and recommendations for potential charter revisions before the CRC begins any substantive work on revisions. The CRC will hold at least two public hearings during our revision work. The first public hearing will take place virtually on Thursday, May 26 at 7 p.m. Please join from your computer, tablet or smartphone. https://meet.goto.com/750500957 You can also dial in using your phone. United States: +1 (786) 535-3211 Access Code: 750-500-957. The goal is to make this charter revision process as transparent to the public as possible and to ensure residents have an active voice throughout.
  2. It's going to be a hot one this weekend with record highs. The National Weather Service has issued multiple advisories. The weather service said the "first widespread hot spell of the season is expected this weekend, with heat indices well into the 90s away from the coast. This will increase the risk of heat-related illness for vulnerable populations." According to AccuWeather.com. "In many areas, the heat and humidity this Saturday and Sunday will bring the hottest conditions since last August, and in some locations, record highs that have stood for more than 100 years could be broken." Stay cool and prepare yourselves, your loved ones and your pets for the heat. (Patch)
  3. With a surge of new positive COVID-19 cases, data reveals that Connecticut has one of the highest rates of new cases in the country this week. According to data from the New York Times, the number of new cases per person over the previous seven days in Connecticut was the highest in the country on Monday and the second-highest on both Tuesday and Wednesday. Residents are once again being urged to wear masks when they are inside.(CT Insider)
  4. As a result of the recently enacted 2022 Connecticut Child Tax Rebate that Governor Lamont signed into law earlier this month, a child tax refund will be available to Connecticut residents who meet the criteria. Applications for the refund will open on June 1 and the refund of up to $250 per child, up to three children, it is expected that refund checks will be issued at the end of August, just in time for school to begin. From my notebook:

  • Connecticut Draft Horse Rescue: Petunia is one of the Variety Pack rescued last Monday. She was deeply fearful of anyone touching or coming near her face. It immediately became clear to the volunteers that she suffered from hard handling and probably other unthinkable things. That is why rescues like this one are so important, to ensure that these beautiful beings have a safe and kind landing after a lifetime of work. (Facebook)
