Last year, crews began clearing the site and initial staging for the installation of a new retaining wall on the east side of Route 82.

The bridge is experiencing intermittent mechanical failures. Engineers were on-site troubleshooting the issue. The town said that until this issue is resolved, the bridge may not be able to swing for marine traffic passage.

The 110-year-old bridge will be updated with new equipment along with structural repairs and a new sidewalk, according to NBC CT.
