Haddam Motorist Charged With Hitting Pedestrian In 2024: Police
The driver was on a mobile phone at the time of the collision, according to police.
HADDAM, CT — A town resident was charged on a warrant Monday with striking and injuring a teen pedestrian on Jackson Road and then leaving the scene.
Frank Bonito, 68, of Haddam, turned himself in at state police Troop F barracks in Westbrook.
Police charged Bonito with reckless driving, operating a motor vehicle while using a handheld telephone, evading responsibility with physical injury, failure to drive in the proper lane, risk of injury to a child, second-degree reckless endangerment, and operating an unregistered motor vehicle.

The accident happened on April 20, 2024 at about 12:25 p.m., according to police.
A 14-year-old male juvenile was struck by a vehicle and suffered injuries to his right forearm, hip knee, and toes. The juvenile was fully conscious after being struck and was able to call his family for help, but reported pain when walking, documents show.

Police were able to connect debris left at the scene to Bonito’s Toyota Highlander, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.
When questioned, Bonito told police he didn’t see anyone, and thought he had only struck a guard rail. Bonito told police he had been on a phone call at the time, the warrant shows.
Bonito is due to be arraigned in Superior Court in Middletown on March 11.
