On Thursday of Holy Week we begin our journey through the Triduum Sacrum – Latin for Three Holy Days – Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday. Three profoundly rich days that lead to the glorious resurrection of Christ on Easter morning. On Thursday night, in particular, we remember Christ’s holy commandment – That we love one another, just as Christ has loved us. By this love, our love, everyone will know that we are Christ’s disciples. On Friday we walk with Christ to the Cross. On Saturday we lament that Christ had to die at all, and we wait in the great silence of the day, praying for the Easter sunrise. While the days ahead are heavy with sorrow and pain – at the core of it all is love. Love for Christ. Love for each other. Love that willingly goes to the Cross. Love that descends into hell. And ultimately – Love that triumphs over death. Often, we take love for granted – but this week, we are reminded that love is the most powerful force in the world. Love brings about community. Love brings about healing. Love brings about transformation for God is LOVE.
