- In nearby Meriden, Josue Ortega-Torres, 19, was identified as the suspect who fatally stabbed Justin Sloan Jr., 44. Sloan later succumbed to his injuries. A standoff between police and Ortega-Torres outside of his home took several hours before he surrendered. He is charged with murder and is currently held on a five-million-dollar bond. (WTNH)
- Due to an upward trend of violent crime in May and June, the nearby East Haven Police Department will be increasing patrols to help resolve violent crime and make their residents feel safer. Mayor Joseph Carfora stated that the extra patrols will help with continuous vigilance and immediate response times. He emphasized the importance of making sure residents feel safe and comfortable. - A 55-year-old man was rushed to the hospital after a horrific accident on Morris Causeway in nearby Elm City. The man fell onto a branch, which pierced his right arm. He was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital for treatment, where his injury was later considered non-life-threatening. (NBC Connecticut)
