- Police are hoping to find witnesses to a wrong-way crash that killed two people in Haddam in the westbound lane of the Route 82 connector. According to an Associated Press article, "Patricia Tucker of New Haven was driving east in the westbound lane of the Route 82 connector in Haddam when her SUV hit a van head-on Tuesday, a state police report says. Tucker, 82, and her passenger, 83-year-old Berthina Mcnair of East Haven, were killed. The van driver and his passenger were taken to hospitals, with serious injuries. Both are 22 and from Hamden. Police are investigating the accident and ask anyone who saw it or has relevant information to call (860)-399-2100." (The Wilton Bulletin)
- According to an article in cbs.news, The House Judiciary Committee today will consider eight pieces of gun control legislation that will be packaged together as the "Protecting Our Kids Act". It will move to the House floor for a vote next week. The article states, "The committee will first debate and modify the proposed legislation in a mark-up session before the full House votes. But any measure passed by the Democratic-led House would also need to get through the Senate, requiring 60 votes to advance and pass. The evenly divided Senate is highly unlikely to accept the sweeping changes most Democrats in the House want, which includes: raising the age for purchasing a semiautomatic centerfire rifle from 18 to 21 years old. Making it illegal to import, sell, manufacture, transfer or possess a large-capacity magazine, with some exceptions. Establishing requirements regulating the storage of firearms on residential facilities. Building on the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms' regulatory ban on bump stocks, attachments to guns that make rapid-fire easier. (cbs.news)
- The Killingworth Library's biggest fundraiser of the year, The Golf Tournament, will be held on August 15th, at the Clinton Country Club. With Father's Day just around the corner, the "early birdie" special at $175 per player, if registered by June 17, might make a great gift?
After June 17, the registration fee increases to $200 per player. According to a press release, this is the library's biggest fundraising event, and there are plenty of ways you can support it, whether it be a sponsorship opportunity or by enjoying a wonderful day of golf this summer.
