1 Killed, 1 Hospitalized In Crash In Haddam: State Police

One person was killed in a crash that shut down part of Route 154 for several hours on Friday, according to police.

HADDAM, CT — A 18-year-old Killingworth man was killed in a one-car crash Friday afternoon in Haddam, according to Connecticut State Police.

Steven D. Zichichi was the passenger of a 2014 Chevrolet Corvette that crashed into a tree on Route 154, according to police. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The driver, 19-year-old John M. Kowal of Higganum, was taken to the hospital for treatment of suspected minor injuries, according to police.

Police said Kowal was driving the Corvette south on Route 154 and lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a left curve near Landing Road. The car spun out and collided with a tree along the east shoulder of the road, according to police.

Route 154 was closed for several hours after the crash.
