Beep, Beep! Touch-a-Truck in Niantic a Great Success

Proceeds from the Child and Family Agency of Southeastern CT's sixth annual Touch-A-Truck event on Saturday will benefit kids at risk.

A Press Release from Child and Family Agency of Southeastern CT

Child and Family Agency of Southeastern CT held their sixth annual Touch-A-Truck event on Saturday at McCook Point Park in Niantic. The annual event benefits the organization’s mission of providing services and support to at-risk children and families in Southeastern CT.  The agency provides programs that deal with child abuse prevention, the treatment of family violence, teen pregnancy, children’s health care, childcare, parent education and children’s mental health.

Children were able to climb on and explore their favorite big trucks, emergency vehicles and tractor trailers. There were also safety demonstrations and performances, face painting and crafts. An estimated 1,800 children and adults attended.

“Child and Family Agency truly appreciates the participation of local law enforcement agencies and businesses that help make this event happen every year,” said Sally Myers, one of the East Lyme Auxiliary co-chairs and an organizer for the event. “Without them, Touch-a-Truck would not be possible.”

The event was co-sponsored by East Lyme Auxiliary of Child and Family Agency of Southeastern Connecticut and the East Lyme Parks and Recreation Department.   Corporate sponsors included Crest Ford, Dime Bank, Chelsea Groton Bank, Boats Inc., Pape Chiropractic and Wellness Center and A.B. CDL Driver Training Center as well as 80 other business sponsors from around the region.

“Seeing the smiles and hearing the laughter of kids and their parents and knowing that we’ve also raised money to support the Agency’s programs that help children and their families throughout Southeastern CT is why we do this every year,” Sally Myers said. “We could not have asked for a better day or a better turnout for such a great cause.”
