Dedicated To "Mike G."—East Lyme's New Field Services Complex

Mike Giannattasio, East Lyme’s longtime director of public works who passed away from cancer last year, left a lasting legacy on the town.

As First Selectman Paul Formica noted, you can see his hand in everything, from the roads and the streetscape in Niantic to the water connection to New London that promises to finally bring an end to East Lyme’s summer water shortages.

And now, you can see his name on the new Field Services Complex on Capitol Drive that he helped build.

It was clear at the ceremony held to dedicate the new building on May 17 that "Mike G," as he was fondly known to all, also left behind a lot of colleagues and friends who miss him. They spoke of his honesty, his integrity, his work ethic, his willingness to help everyone, and his abiding faith in God.

And they noted how the lessons he taught by example continue to inspire them in their work today.

At the dedication ceremony, many people spoke about how much Mike G. had meant to them. His wife, Patty, however, was able to tell them just how much they had meant to him.
