East Lyme Zoning Commission Defers Taproom Regulations Decisions

The Zoning Commission deferred a decision Wednesday on requested regulations that would allow a downtown Niantic taproom brewery.

Discussion will continue at the Zoning Commission’s July meeting regarding the deferred decision on requested regulation revisions to allow a taproom brewery in downtown Niantic, The Day reported.

The decision to defer came because the commission wants time to research the issue of potential odors associated with breweries and to review how a taproom would be defined, to instate proper wording in the new regulations, The Day reported.

Revisions to the town’s zoning regulations would allow for the brewery to exist on one of the town’s commercial zones, which aren’t yet approved for this types of establishment, The Day reported.

The brewery, which will be called the Niantic Public House and Brewery, if the regulations are approved, would then apply for a special permit for the establishment, as well as state and federal licensing, The Day reported.
