Get Fresh and Pop a Wheelie—Things to do in Lyme and Old Lyme This weekend

Lyme Farmer's Market opens for the season and kids ride in a bike rodeo on Saturday.

Get Fresh at the Farmer's Market

It's that time again! The Lyme Farmer's Market opens this Saturday for the season at Ashlawn Farm on Bill Hill Road in Lyme from 9.a.m. to 12:30 p.m. In addition to all that lovely fresh produce, there will be food from the G. Monkey Truck, and guest vendors including woodworker John Parent; puzzle man, Don Paczowski; jewelry maker Melissa Punzalan; Shannon Carnese is back with her jams and John Gibison, a gluten free baker, is making his market debut.

Some homegrown musicians will also be making their big debut at Saturday's Market.

"Nick Lussier and our own Charlie Dahlke open this season’s musical adventures on Saturday," writes Chip Dahlke in his latest newsletter. "They have been practicing all winter for this debut. They turned the library at the farm into their own studio. I was real happy about that. They are still trying to decide what to call themselves. They are toying with the name, “The Homesteaders”. I suggested the “Kip Culver Orchestra.” They think that’s real stupid. Carol suggested they learn some James Taylor. They think that’s real stupid, too."

Kids' Bike Rodeo

Lyme-Old Lyme Middle School will be hosting a bike rodeo on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event is open to kids ages K through 8. There will be big bike fun and prizes too. Events will stress rider safety and bike etiquette and give kids a chance to show off their bike handling skills. Water, coffee, and snacks are provided free of change. Kids—don't forget to bring your bike and a helmet!
