Head-On Collision in Lyme Leaves Two Cars Badly Damaged, But No One Seriously Hurt

Two cars smashed into each other head-on Thursday night on Hamburg Road, but no one was badly hurt.

Late Thursday night, two cars smashed into each other head-on at the intersection of Hamburg Road and Sterling City Road in Lyme, leaving both cars badly damaged, but both drivers without serious injuries.

On Thursday, just before 10:58 p.m., Timothy Hoelzel, 30, of Old Lyme was driving his Volkswagen New Beetle west on Sterling City Road when he reached the intersection of Hamburg Road in Lyme, according to state police. Hoelzel then made a left onto Hamburg Road, where he smashed into a Dodge Caravan driven by Keith Signore, 53, of Salem head-on, according to police.

Signore was transported to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital as he reportedly had a minor laceration on his right leg and possibly a fractured left forearm, while Hoelzel refused medical treatment, according to police. Both cars sustained "heavy front-end damage" in the crash, according to police.

There were no witnesses to the accident. Both drivers were wearing their seat belts.
