Lyme Farmers Market Newsletter—Farmers Market Connecticut Trail 2013
There's a lot of farmers markets in Connecticut and you should visit as many as you can

Connecticut is a small state and you can get to all points without much difficulty. It’s not like trying to fly to some remote destination. So before you grab your passport and some bottled water you might first check out what’s happening in your own state. Now, I know you don’t actually own the state like in owning a favorite sweater. I guess the state owns the state. Otherwise state parks wouldn’t have signs that said “Closed at Sunset”. If you owned the state those signs wouldn’t apply to you. Maybe they would keep out people from Rhode Island, but not you. You could also trespass where the signs say, “No Trespassing State Property”. I figure if your tax money bought all this stuff, you could pretty much claim ownership to it all. Anyway, this isn’t how things work and has nothing to do with farmers markets. I just like to go on about things to take up space.
Visiting different farmers markets is pretty simple. Go online ( we all know what that means, right?) to www.farmersmarkettrail.com. This little website gives you some insight to some of the best markets in the state. Now I’m not saying it gives you insight to all the best markets in the state. For one reason or another not all the good markets made the list, but not everything makes all the lists out there. The trick of making a popular list is to leave off one or two entries who should have made the list. This creates controversy and controversy creates a need to read the list to find who’s on and who’s off. That’s the ay life works. You can’t trespass on state owned land and you can’t always make the list.
By my count there are thirteen farmers markets and one restaurant on the list. I’m not sure how the restaurant made the list. Maybe they comp the people who made the list. There’s also a really nice Facebook page that has posts about what’s happening all around Connecticut at the various farmers markets. Sometimes they even post this newsletter. You’d think they’d have better taste, but who am I to argue.
So go grab your funny hat and market bag, jump in the Volvo with the “No Farms No Food” bumper sticker and go visit some different farmers markets this season.

We continue the music with the Dizzy River Band. Erin and boys were really great last summer. If they weren’t great, we wouldn’t have asked them back. It all makes sense if you think about it long enough.
Guest Vendors
John Gibson is showing back up with his Gluten free baked goods. Someone asked the other day what gluten free meant. Gluten is a type of protein found in wheat, barley, rye, etc. A number of folks are gluten intolerant and therefore must eat gluten free diets. That’s the short answer. I know I’m going to receive emails saying I screwed that explanation up.
Laurie Annya Linfoot is coming with her recycled creations. I’m always at a loss to accurately describe exactly what she does. Maybe you can stop by and see heron Saturday. Then shoot me an email with a description. Obviously I’m not doing a very good job with this.
Slammin Shannon Carnese is stopping by with her jams. For those who follow her, she left behind the old standbys some time ago. Some say she’s becoming very creative and some say she’s losing it. You make the call.
