Lyme Firefighter Returns Home After Battling Wildfires in Canada

Jason Bjornberg was one of 19 firefighters who went as part of DEEP's Fire Crew to help fight a 30,000 acre wildfire in Quebec.

Jason Bjornberg returns home to Lyme today after spending more than a week battling wildfires in Canada.

Bjornberg was part of a 19-member Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Connecticut Fire Crew made up of  nine DEEP employees and 10 private-sector firefighters. The crew left on July 20 for northern Quebec where they were fighting a 30,000 acre wildfire located in the far eastern side of the Province near Baie-Comeau, Quebec.

The crew assisted Canada under the auspices of the Northeast Forest Fire Compact. The Compact is a mutual aid agreement between several northeastern states and Eastern Canadian Provinces.

DEEP is proud to report that Connecticut’s crew members received excellent reviews from the Northeast Forest Fire Compact.
