LYME, CT — On Sunday, October 20, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., the Lyme Public Library, the Lyme Democratic Town Committee and the Lyme Republican Town Committee will hold a Volunteer Fair that provides the opportunity for local residents to meet with nearly 30 different Lyme-affiliated organizations, boards and commissions that are actively seeking volunteers. Free coffee and apple-cider doughnuts will be served.

In announcing the fair, Library Director Melissa Fournier said, “At this fun-filled event, attendees will hear inspiring stories about how volunteers play a critical role in keeping Lyme safe, operational and fiscally responsible, and discover how they might put their skills and talents to use – whether it’s providing an hour or two to clear a hiking trail, assisting an organization with administrative work or serving on an important board or commission. There are so many enjoyable and meaningful ways to be of service in Lyme and the Volunteer Fair is a great way to connect with neighbors and find out what opportunities are available.”

Lyme First Selectman David Lahm is among those encouraging residents to take advantage of the fair. “Lyme is a volunteer town,” he said. “We employ only a handful of full-time employees. To operate efficiently, we need to staff more than 140 positions on boards and commissions with volunteers – talented citizens who step forward to serve our town with their expertise and experience. The Volunteer Fair is a great time to match your interests and expertise with our town’s needs.”

Groups that have signed up to participate in the fair include the following:
