Man Sped Through Construction Zone At 117 MPH In East Lyme: Police
A man is facing charges that he drove 117 mph in a construction zone on I-95, according to state police.
EAST LYME, CT — A man is being charged after police clocked him going 117 mph in a construction zone on I-95.
A trooper spotted the black Mercedes-Benz SUV speeding on I-95 North near Exit 73 at 12:40 a.m. Monday.
The trooper then merged into the left lane, behind the SUV, and clocked the Mercedes going 105 mph in a 65-mph zone.

The driver then entered a highway construction zone with a 50 mph limit. The SUV was then found to be going 115 mph.
The trooper temporarily delayed pulling over the vehicle as there was no safe space to do so. Just before the trooper stopped the driver, the Mercedes was going 117 mph, state police said.

The driver pulled over on the right shoulder of Exit 75.
State police said the Old Lyme resident is being charged with reckless driving.
The man was taken into custody. He was released on a $1,500 surety bond scheduled for arraignment at New London Superior Court on Sept. 16.
