Niantic Bank Branch To Close: Report

A Rhode Island-based bank said it will close one of its branches, marking the closure of another bank branch in Connecticut this year.

EAST LYME, CT — Citizens Bank will close its Niantic branch, The Hartford Business Journal reported. The Rhode Island-based lender told the federal Office of the Comptroller of the Currency that it will close the 43 Pennsylvania Ave. location.

Citizens has seven other branches in New London County. As of the summer, it was the 10th-largest bank in the state with $3.3 billion in deposits and 32 branches, according to The Hartford Business Journal.

Earlier this year, Citizens announced it would close its Woodbridge location.

There have been a growing number of bank branches closing across Connecticut over the past few years as people have moved more toward online banking.

Over the summer, Milford Bank announced it would close one of its locations in November.

Wells Fargo announced earlier this year that it would close locations in Danbury and Darien this summer. The Waterbury branch also closed over the summer.

The Webster Bank branch in Old Saybrook closed in June. Wells Fargo closed its Monroe branch in June.
