Niantic Cinemas To Close Permanently

EAST LYME, CT — Niantic Cinemas will close permanently, according to a post on the theater's Facebook page. Previously, the theater announced it would close temporarily in the fall due to the low quality of Hollywood's recent output.

Niantic Cinemas posted the following on Facebook:

"After much thought, we decided to close the Niantic Cinema. Over the years we have noticed a continuous decline in our attendance. During the covid19 pandemic film studios launched their own streaming services which now are how the majority of the public enjoys movies. Along with the decline in attendance our operating costs have skyrocketed."

The post garnered 553 reactions and close to 200 comments, with many people saying they were sad to hear the news.

One user wrote: "Heartbroken. Niantic Cinema has been our favorite over the years. All the best to you good people."
