Stop & Shop Rewards Local Schools Thanks To Shoppers in East Lyme
Schools in East Lyme, Niantic, Old Lyme, and Lyme have all benefited from the program that is linked to shopper's loyalty cards.
The Stop & Shop Supermarket Company LLC announced it distributed $1 million to 1,896 local schools in the New York Metro area as a result of its 2012-2013 A+ School Rewards Program.
The A+ School Rewards program is linked to shoppers’ Stop & Shop loyalty cards, earning points for all in-store purchases. Stop & Shop customers can designate up to two schools to benefit from their purchases.
So far this year, Stop & Shop's program has raised $1,142.25 for East Lyme High School; $1,218.38 for East Lyme Middle School; $1,479.37 for Lillie B. Haynes Elementary School; $1,592.29 for Flanders Elementary School; and $317.81 for Niantic Center School.
Lyme-Old Lyme schools also benefited. The year to date totals are $2,495.27 for Center School; $2,115,07 for Lyme-Old Lyme Middle School; $1,523.66 for Lyme Consolidated School; 415.82 for Mile Creek Elementary School; and even $13.72 for Michaud Family Homeschool. Lyme-Old Lyme High School is not registered for the program.

In the past, funds raised by A+ School Rewards have helped purchase new computers, additional classroom technology, musical instruments and athletic uniforms and funded school aids, field trips, sports and after-school programs. However, this year many of the schools that were affected by Hurricane Sandy will be using the money raised to help rebuild their damaged schools and playgrounds.
Staten Island was one of the hardest hit areas in the New York Metro area as a result of the storm. St. Charles School on Staten Island, the program’s #1 rewards leader for the past three years, has raised a total of $56,906.94 since 2010. In 2013, the school raised $22,822.10 to help their school’s rebuilding efforts.
A Connecticut school was the fifth biggest beneficiary so far this year. Frenchtown Elementary School in Trumbull received $5,266.92.
