Kids and cops from Old Lyme showed they weren't afraid to get wet for a good cause at a car wash organized by Operation LOL as a benefit for Caroline's Miracle Foundation.
Old Lyme Police Officer Martin Lane first established Operation LOL two years ago as a way to build community relations between local police and town youth.
Each month four members of Old Lyme Police Department get together with 12 to 15 kids from Old Lyme and Lyme to do something fun.
This year that's included trips to ride go-karts, bounce on trampolines, bowling, and a ropes course to help with team-building.
The program is funded with a grant from the state's Office of Policy and Management juvenile justice division and through donations from the Old Lyme police union.
Lane says he's applied for the $10,000 grant again this year, which offsets the cost of running the program. But even if he doesn't get the grant this year, Lane says, "we will still do it."
"We've got a great group of kids," Lane says.
