Storm drains are having a hard time keeping up with the heavy rain in Niantic. The intersection of Main Street and Pennsylvania Avenue is particularly prone to flooding, but Pennsylvania Avenue near Niantic Center Church also has water building up.
Be especially careful driving tonight, particularly if you're traveling along roads in low-lying areas such as Soundview in Old Lyme that typically flood during heavy rains. It's likely to get worse before it gets better as high tide by Millstone Point isn't until about 10:30 p.m.
The National Weather Service issued a flood warning for small streams in New London County at 8:38 p.m., in effect until 12:30 p.m. tonight. More heavy rain is expected to come our way later this evening.
