Wildfire Breaks Out, Consumes 6 Acres In East Lyme

Firefighters from several area departments were working to contain the blaze at Oswegatchie Hills on Monday.

EAST LYME, CT — Several area fire departments are containing a fire in the trails at Oswegatchie Hills, according to the East Lyme Public Safety Facebook page.

The fire is estimated at about 6 acres and is "contained at this time."

The towns of Waterford, Old Lyme, Montville, Lyme, and Old Saybrook are all assisting along with the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, the Connecticut National Guard, the U.S. Navy Sub-Base Fire Department, and the Maine Forestry Service.

The news comes as wildfires have broken out around the state due to extremely dry conditions.

Emergency burn bans have been issued as well as a statewide Red Flag Alert.
