Your Take: Do You Abide By East Lyme's Water Restrictions?

Are you supportive of East Lyme's water conservation regulations? Do you think they go too far? Not far enough? Or are you counting the days until East Lyme's water supply is connected to New London?

It's been a dry spring, which means water tables are even lower than usual. That doesn't bode well for the water supply in East Lyme this summer.

Tonight, East Lyme Board of Selectmen will hold a public hearing to consider water conservation measures that are imposed as part of the town's Water Supply Emergency Ordinance.

These rules have been in place for years, so most residents are familiar with the drill but, if you're new in town, these are the rules from 9 a.m. Friday until noon on Monday.

  • Prohibited: Sprinkling, watering or irrigation of lawns.
  • Prohibited: Washing motor vehicles and outdoor surfaces of buildings, sidewalks and structures.
  • Prohibited: Filling or cleaning of swimming and wading pools.
Oh, and don't expect your server to bring you a glass of water in a restaurant unless you specifically ask for one. That's prohibited too.

These rules, if approved, will take effect June 28. The public hearing will be held tonight at 7 pm at East Lyme Town Hall.
