Previous public office, appointive or elective:
Previous Member of Tollands Veteran Commission and currently on the Planning and Zoning Commission.
Why are you seeking this office?
During my 30 years in the U.S. Navy, my primary mission and goal was always (Sailors First). If elected, I will take the same approach (Students First). I care deeply about the quality of education for our students. Every student must be given every opportunity to succeed. Providing a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment for our students will be my top priority. Teachers will also need the proper resources to succeed and guide our students. Additionally, encouraging parent and community involvement. Serving in the Board or Education will allow me to continue to serve after my 30 years of service.
The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is ____, and this is what I intend to do about it:
The budget is by far the most important thing facing my constituents. Students and teachers are being asked to do more with less. My goal is to work on a budget that is in line with our community but putting our students and teachers first. Getting into the details of the yearly school budget is what I plan to do. I will ensure that we identify the priorities vs the non-essentials and understand the impacts for the students.
What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?
I'm available and willing to discuss the difficult topics that others stay away from. We may not always agree, but I'm always willing and ready to listen and learn from others.
What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign?
Although, the Budget is my primary concern, I want to ensure our Principals, Teacher, Faculty and Staff have all the tools and resources required to function on a daily basis. Safety of our schools and an environment were all students feel comfortable to learn and feel welcomed. Ensuring that our parents have a solid relationship and open dialogue with teachers and staff. Parents are our students' primary advocates. This town relies on the success of our students. Promoting academic excellence with great results is one of my top priorities.
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
I feel that my military career has prepared me for many of the challenges I will face if elected. During my 30 years of service, I have managed well over 1,000 Sailors from all walks of life and many different skills. Additionally, during this time I managed well over $500 million dollars of both budget and equipment. My fast-paced tempo allowed me to think quickly on my feet resulting in very favorable results.
What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?
Stay true to yourself and stay consistent as you lead your people.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?
I would like the thank the residents of Tolland for welcoming me to this amazing community.
