Creative Harvest Craft Sale

On Friday November 18, from 2-7 p.m. and Saturday, November 19, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Tolland Congregational Church will hold a sale of unique items that have been knitted, crocheted, quilted or sewn as well as other crafts. The items include quilted crib blankets and Christmas table runners, scarves, hats, mittens, children’s sweaters, baby blankets and much more. New items include colorful, warm hand knit socks and headbands. Also special gifts for dogs and cats. Clothing for the American Girl Dolls, including UConn cheerleader outfits will be available. The bake sale includes homemade pies, jams, pickles, breads, and other sweets.

The Knit and Pray group of UCC Tolland also is part of an international movement of people making prayer shawls to give to those in need, such as someone who is ill or grieving, or in celebration of special events such as weddings or birthdays.

The idea of knitting prayer shawls originated with two women from West Hartford. Shawls are knitted in groups of 3 stitches, and the number 3 has come to symbolize many things: the Trinity, phases of life (child/adult/senior), acts of existence (birth/life/death), and many other things. These beautiful shawls will be on display and available to anyone in need of one. Donations to equal the cost of the yarn are appreciated.
