Memorial Day Essay Contest & Coloring

From the Town of Tolland:

Tolland students can show their patriotism by taking part in the Town’s 2012 Memorial Day Essay Contest.

This year’s topic is “Why are you proud of the American flag and how do you show it?”

Winners will be honored at a ceremony following Tolland’s 21st Annual Memorial Day Parade, which begins at 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 27.

Prizes will be awarded in four categories: grades 3-4, grades 5-6, grades 7-8 and grades 9-12. The contest is open to Tolland students. Entries must be written in the form of an essay. They must be typed, double-spaced, in 12-point font, and no longer than one page. They must include the student’s name, address, phone number and grade.

Entries, which must be received by May 7, should be sent to Jodi Coombs, Tolland Permanent Celebration Committee, 56 Laurel Ridge Road, Tolland 06084 or e-mailed toTollandPCC@gmail.com

Winners will be notified before the parade and will each receive a $25 Barnes & Noble gift card.

Tolland children can also take part in the festivities by coloring a Memorial Day page provided by the committee. The pages will be available at the Tolland Public Library in the weeks before the parade and will be sent home through the public schools. Children who bring their completed artwork to the library will receive a prize.
