On Thursday, Nov. 10, 7pm, a special prayer vigil and service will be offered at the United Congregational Church of Tolland to recognize all veterans and their families; from those serving in “The Great War” to those who have recently returned from “the war on terrorism.” In a recent article in Global Ministries on war and compassionate care to soldiers and military families, Rev. John Gundlach writes,
“No one experiencing the trauma of living in a combat environment returns home the same person as the one who left. Even those who are not directly involved in combat operations but live in an environment where danger is always imminent are changed by it.”
This night offers a place for all veterans, their families and friends to come together in a shared experience and to offer Tolland residents an opportunity to show their care and appreciation. Spanning the generations, it is a place to be named as one who has withstood the horrors of war and be honored by others who recognize and are grateful for their courage, their valor and their sacrifice. These are the men and women who have literally laid down their lives for a friend. Even friends whose face they have not seen.
